1. The obligation of the seller of the futures or forward ("the short") to make delivery of (sell) the underlying or its cash value at contract maturity.
2. The unconditional obligation either of a call writer to sell to or of a put writer to buy from a holder of that option the amount of the asset specified in the contract at the strike price, if the option is exercised.
